Parents

Our parents seldom made us cry. They did everything to make us smile….Then why do we keep them in second priority? We weep for that guy who never cares, takes us for granted, talks when he wants to, leaves when we need him. It’s high time to value true relation rather than running for one who was never worth it. Our parents are only people in this world who love us with our flaws. Love them too

I wish I were a TV

A teacher from Primary School asks her students to write an essay about what they would like God to do for them… At the end of the day, while marking the essays, she read one that made her very emotional.
Her husband, who had just walked in, saw her crying and asked her: - ‘What happened?’
She answered- ‘Read this. It is one of my students’ essays.’
‘Oh God, tonight I ask you something very special:
Make me into a television. I want to take its place and live like the TV in my house.
Have my own special place, and have my family around ME.
To be taken seriously when I talk….
I want to be the centre of attention and be heard without interruptions or questions.
I want to receive the same special care that the TV receives even when it is not working.
Have the company of my dad when he arrives home from work, even when he is tired.
And I want my mom to want me when she is sad and upset, instead of ignoring me…
And… I want my brothers to fight to be with me…
I want to feel that family just leaves everything aside, every now and then, just to spend some time with me.
And last but not least, ensure that I can make them all happy and entertain them…
Lord I don’t ask you for much… I just want to live like a TV.’
At that moment the husband said: - ‘My God, poor kid. What horrible parents!’
The wife looked up at him and said: - ‘That essay is our son’s!!!

Praise

When was the last time you praised someone? If you have to think to answer this question, then you are not doing enough. People are extremely praise-deprived. They long for praise from anyone all the time. We never seem to get enough praise.
This article explores what stops us from praising others and provides a number of techniques that act as a reminder to praise others and therefore systematically improve their performances. These techniques are ideal for those in management roles who can significantly benefit from the positive effects of praise both for themselves and for their organisations.
What Are We Afraid of?
There are many reasons why people or managers feel there is no point to praise. Here are some of the common reasons:
• The employees don’t deserve it
• I will look silly if I praise them
• The task is too simple to be praised on
• If I praise them, they would think I am soft
• If I praise one, I have to praise everyone
• I didn’t get any praise and look where I am now. Why should I praise them?
These ideas are self-destructive as they ignore the enormous benefits of praise both on the person who is praised and the person who is praising. Many of these fears are unfounded. Everyone deserves to be praised, no matter how small their contribution. Praise is always a more powerful motivator than punishment. The person who praises is always liked because people are so eager to receive it.
Research shows that people who think praising takes something away from them may suffer from lack of self-esteem. Praising people will make them become warmer towards you which in turn will boost your self-esteem

Retirement

My friend and I were on a cruise through the Western Mediterranean aboard a Princess Liner. At dinner we noticed an elderly lady sitting alone along the rail of the grand stairway in the main dining room. I also noticed that all the Staff, Ships Officers, Waiters, Busboys, etc., all seemed very familiar with this lady.

I asked our Waiter who the lady was, expecting to be told she owned the Line, but he said he only knew that she had been on board for the last four cruises, back to back.

As we left the dining room one evening I caught her eye and stopped to say hello. We chatted and I said, "I understand you've been on this ship for the last four cruises". She replied, "Yes, that's true."

I stated, "I don't understand" and she replied, without a pause, "it's cheaper than a nursing home."
“How?” I asked
She explained as follows:

The average cost for a Nursing Home is $200 per day. I have checked on reservations at Princess and I can get a long term discount and senior discount price of $135 per day. That leaves $65 a day for:
1. Savings, which will only be $10 per day, and the rest can be put into the slot machines.
2. I will have as many as 10 meals a day if I can waddle to the restaurant, or I can have room service (which means I can have breakfast in bed every day of the week).
3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free washers and dryers, and shows every night.
4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo.
5. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient An extra $5 worth of tips and your casino winnings will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.
6. I will get to meet new people every 7 to 14 days.
7. TV broken? Light bulb needs changing? Need to have the mattress replaced? No Problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your inconvenience.
8. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don't even have to ask for them.
9. If you fall in the Nursing Home and break a hip you are on Medicare; if you fall and break a hip on the Princess Ship they will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.
10. And when you die, they just dump you over the side at no charge.
My conclusion: So, there will be no Nursing Home in my future. When I get old and feeble, I am going to get on a Princess Cruise Ship.

Strange

• A medical student was working in the toxicology department at the poison control center. A woman called in very upset because she caught her little daughter eating ants. The medical student quickly reassured her that the ants are not harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter into the hospital. She calmed down, and at the end of the conversation happened to mention that she gave her daughter some ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants. The student told the mother that she better bring her daughter in to the emergency room right away.
• Seems that a year ago, some Boeing employees on the work field decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s. They were successful in getting it out of the plane and home. When they took it for a float on the river, they were quite surprised by a Coast Guard helicopter coming towards them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on the emergency locator that is automatically activated when the raft is inflated. They are no longer employed there.
• A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and photographed his car. He later received in the mail a ticket for $40 and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40. Several days later, he received a letter from the police that contained another picture. It was a picture of handcuffs.
